Well, one player has taken that to the extreme, creating an entirely new console aptly named the Flip Deck, and it’s both wild and impressive.
Sharing their creation on Reddit, one user revealed the Flip Deck, a DS / Clamshell-looking console complete with a snazzy pink folding screen, joysticks, touchpads, and, of course, the software of the Steam Deck.
“I think my Steam Deck flipped out… In the best way possible,” joked the creator, showcasing the Flip Deck.
They went on to explain that it’s a “100% authentic and fully functional Steam Deck, everything working from the ambient light sensor down to the back buttons. Only thing that wouldn’t fit was the original thumbsticks, but a few custom PCBs for that and the face buttons took care of it.”
Of course, it’s a bit smaller than the original console design, with it being 4mm smaller and 100mm shorter, so not quite pocket-sized and much larger (and heavier) than the older handhelds that many grew up with.
Naturally, fans adored the creation, with many wondering how they can get hold of one: “That is incredibly cool…. When do you start shipping these?” The inventor responded, explaining they “have no plans currently to ship these units,” going on to add, “However, if enough people want one, I may consider doing conversions.”
